2013 The Secret Gardens of Fourth Ward
The Friends of Fourth Ward will be hosting our Secret Gardens Tour where homeowners on the tour will open their rarely-seen private gardens to the public. Tour-goers will enjoy two days of discovering these hidden gems, while strolling the brick-paved sidewalks of this charming neighborhood. In addition to the featured gardens, the tour will highlight public art, historic homes and special points of interest along the tour route.
This walkable tour includes admission to multiple private gardens, the garden at the historic McNinch House Restaurant, and docent-led tours of Fourth Ward Park. Additional tour attractions listed below.

Tickets are $20 (+ tax) and good for both days. They may be purchased using the top link above where you will be transferred to Paypal for secure checkout. During tour hours, ticket-holders must redeem their tickets for tour guidebooks at the tour ticket booth at the corner of 7th & Poplar Streets in Fourth Ward. The ticket booth also will be the only location for same day ticket purchases. Please bring a printed or digital copy of your receipt if purchasing your ticket online. Children that cannot be carried must have a ticket.
Additional Activities, Attractions & Details
McNinch House Restaurant & Garden - During tour hours, the Four-Diamond McNinch House Restaurant, housed in a turn-of-the-century Victorian home, will offer a cash wine bar in its front garden, as well as a luxurious High Tea inside. All tour-goers are welcome in the garden; tickets for the High Tea must be purchased in advance for $25 using the links above. High Tea will be offered in three seatings:

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery - Charlotte’s award-winning Olde Mecklenburg Brewery will offer free beer tastings to all tour-goers.
7th Street Public Market - On Saturday, April 27th, 7th Street Public Market will kick off its “Green Market Days”, offering a variety of garden-themed activities, classes and products in conjunction with the Secret Gardens tour.
Charlotte B-Cycle - During tour hours, B-Cycle the largest urban bike-sharing system in the southeast, will operate a temporary station at 7th & Poplar Streets, from which tour-goers may engage in free “test drives”.
Queen’s Crown Tree Canopy Tour - As a Garden Tour ticket holder, you have an exclusive opportunity to join a FREE guided tour of the Uptown neighborhood tree canopy on B-cycles. The tours will meander through the 4th Ward neighborhood, the cemeteries, and parks. The tours will highlight some of Uptown’s “treasure trees” while sharing a collection of stories and legends involving these living jewels. The one-hour tours will be led by Queens Crown tree enthusiasts and experts, Patrick Anderson and Patrick George.
All tours will begin at the 7th Street Market. Please arrive 10 minutes before the tour to arrange for your B-cycle. Tour riders must be 18 years or older, bring a bicycle helmet and have purchased a ticket for the 4th Ward Secret Gardens Tour. Tour-goers are encouraged to use light rail to access Center City using the 7th Street Station stop. Those who drive are encouraged to park at the surface lot on 7th Street across from the 7th Street Public Market for $5.00 flat fee. FREE horse-drawn carriages will serve as shuttles between the Market and Fourth Ward during tour hours. Limited free on-street parking is available within Fourth Ward on a first-come, first-served basis.
Restrooms are available in various retail establishments in Fourth Ward and along the tour. Entry into private homes along the tour will not be available.
